2001:
Two weeks of ship time (September 20-25 and October 20-25, 2001) aboard the R/V Suncoaster were scheduled for research pertaining to blooms of the red tide organism Karenia brevis. A large scale, high intensity bloom of K. brevis persisted in the western Gulf of Mexico throughout the fall of 2001 allowing an excellent opportunity to study the bio-optical properties of K. brevis under natural conditions. Hydrographic properties and K. brevis distributions at the surface during each cruise are presented here.
