Rehabilitation Hospital

Mission Statement

The Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital provides state-of-the-art critical care and chronic care for stranded sea turtles. The mission of the Hospital is to rehabilitate sick and injured animals to return them to the wild.  Whether the animals survive or not, we seek to learn everything we can that will expand our knowledge of the basic biology, the veterinary care, and the disease processes of these animals. Our philosophy is "Every case is a success, whether it is released alive or not, as long as something is learned from the case." We do NOT seek to keep the animals alive at all costs. We believe that an animal that is suffering with no hope of survival should be humanely euthanized to end its suffering. With the animals that are released back into the wild, we make an effort to do follow-up monitoring. This allows us to gain the knowledge of how successful the rehabilitation was as well as adding to our understanding of the short and long-term movements of these animals.
