MOTE MARINE LABORATORY |
The Tampa Electric Power Company (TECO) has contracted with Mote Marine Laboratory to conduct various studies to define the thermal plume emitted by the power plant and to determine the effects of entrainment and thermal effluent on the plankton of Hillsborough Bay. Zooplankton were collected in one meter mouth 505 and 200 micron mesh plankton nets using step oblique plankton tows. Zooplankton were collected at four stations, 2 controls and 2 stations influenced by the thermal plume. Ten samples were taken at each station during spring, summer, fall and winter. Samples are being sorted for fish eggs, fish larvae, and invertebrate meroplankton and holoplankton. All zooplankton are being identified down to the nearest taxon.
