Jackpot ! Although not part of our current study, we received a notable return on an amberjack tagged as part of our Reef Fish Tagging Program. The amberjack was tagged on September 7, 1991, off St. Petersburg, Florida. It was tagged by Captain Lou Bonsey with a SOFA (Southern Offshore Fishing Association) tag during one of their no kill tournaments with which our Program was associated. The fish was 48.5 inches long when tagged and released. The AMBERJACK was recaptured 3954 days or 11 years later by Captain David Nettles off Destin, Florida. When it was recaptured it had grown to 74 inches and weighed 93 lbs.
