With the world's ever growing need for marine resources, greater demands are being focused toward marine aquaculture. From cultivating food fish to meet the ever increasing demand for seafood to supplying ornamentals to marine hobbiests, the vast opportunity for aquaculture research is endless. A new project that Mote's Center for Aquaculture and Research Development is interested in pursuing is the culture of marine ornamentals, such as seahorses. We are also exploring funding opportunities for several food and sport fishes (i.e., cobia, seatrout) and for long-spined sea urchins for coral reef restoration research.
