The C.A.R.D.'s coral research program is
conducted at Mote's Tropical Research Laboratory (TRL) in the Florida Keys. This research focuses on the propagation of Caribbean
corals under controlled environmental conditions for reef restoration
research. Coral presently in culture at TRL have been rescued from boat
grounding and other environmental disturbances, stabilized in raceway tanks,
fragmented and mounted on coral culture bases in recirculating culture
microcosms, and are being grown using optimal light and water chemistry
conditions. This project is a collaborative research effort between Mote
and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
