Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium - Sarasota, Florida

RESEARCH VESSELS

TRL provides a USCG licensed captain to operate all Mote vessels, and staff are experienced field researchers, fully trained scientific divers, and extremely knowledgeable about the nearby habitats.

R/V Lady Lynne

R/V Lady Lynne is a 25' Parker with twin 200hp Yamaha four-stroke engines.  It is capable of carrying up to 11 people(plus captain), or 8 divers with full gear(plus captain), and can cruise comfortably at 30 knots.   Overall fuel capacity allows for a working range of more than 300 miles.   Space below provides bunk space for two people, a folding table provides space for computers or laptops, and both 12v DC and 110v AC power is available.  A large rear dive platform and custom dive ladder make entry and exit with gear and equipment easy, and a ten-gallon freshwater shower and pressurized seawater pump are also installed.

R/V Mako and R/V Bonefisher

The 19' R/V Mako is equipped with a 200hp Yamaha two-stroke engine, and comfortably carries 5 people(3 divers with gear).  The 17' R/V Bonefisher is equipped with a 75hp Yamaha four-stroke engine, and can accommodate 3 people.  Both are primarily for nearshore and gulf-side research, and are ideal for trailering and launching at remote sites.

The R/V Eugenie Clark (46'), based year-round at Mote's main facility in Sarasota, is also available by special arrangement for extended offshore operations in the Keys.

For non-Mote visiting scientists wishing to trailer and launch their own vessels, several small boat ramps are located nearby, and ample dock space is available.  Several boat rental businesses are also conveniently located on Summerland Key for those wishing to rent small boats for use without TRL staff assistance.  In addition, a variety of kayaks are maintained on-site for visitor use at no additional charge.
