SCUBA
REQUIREMENTS AND TRAINING
|
Mote Marine Laboratory is an Organizational Member of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences
(AAUS), and follows all the same rules and regulations. TRL staff
includes highly trained and experienced Scientific Divers who are
avialable to provide assistance with nearly any aspect of
fieldwork.
|
|
|
Divers
coming to TRL from a AAUS affiliated institution need only provide a
"letter of reciprocity" from their dive safety
officer. Those
individuals interested in diving at TRL who are not certifiied
Scientific Divers with an active scientific diving program will need to
meet the requirements of a Mote "temporary diver".
|
Requirements
for "temporary diver" clearance are:
- completed Temporary Diver Application form (.pdf
) or (.doc)
- minimum of Open Water certification (any agency - provide photocopy)
- completed Medical History Questionnaire (.pdf
) or (.doc)
- completed Physician's Approval form (.pdf
) or (.doc)
- proof of insurance covering dive accidents(minimum of D.A.N. insurance)
All
completed forms and copies of relevant certifications must be submitted to the TRL Dive
Safety Officer by mail, fax, or email, prior to arrival at the facility for review.
Mote also strongly encourages all visiting divers to obtain training in CPR, First
Aid, and Oxygen Administration, and depending on the nature of the
activity to be conducted at TRL these may be required.
|
|
|
|
SCUBA
tanks and air fills can be provided at minimal cost. Other dive equipment
is not available on-site, but arrangements can be made with a nearby
local dive shop for equipment rental at reduced rates for Mote
visitors. Weights are provided at no cost, but divers need to
provide their own belt.
