Instructor: Thomas Cuba, Ph.D., Delta-Seven Inc.

This 2½ day workshop is a companion
to the annual coral disease course and is intended to stimulate students to
explore methods of assisted recovery and to recognize when assistance
may not be required. Lectures on successional theory will
include identifying the functional mechanisms of succession. Field work will be used to
demonstrate theoretical and practical aspects of succession and will
include the observation of recolonization of space opened up by black
band disease, the colonization and microhabitat selection of substrate
exposed for known lengths of time, and comparisons to undamaged assemblages. This course will be limited to 6 individuals.
