Mote Marine Laboratory began to offer marine education programs at Pigeon
Key in 1994 with a JASON Project downlink site on the island for Monroe
County students. Since that time, TRL's Education Department offers marine science field
programs at TRL for middle and high school groups during the academic
year, summer camp programs, Marine Educators workshops, and Advanced
Courses in Tropical Marine Sciences. In addition, TRL hosts and
helps provide logistical support for numerous visiting college classes or groups
each year.
