Learning marine science outdoors is much more fun than reading about it indoors.
During parts of the summer and many times during the school year the Mote
facility at Summerland Key provides residential education programs for small
groups (15-20) adults and students.
|
|
School groups with their teacher are welcome, and we also work with scout groups or other youth groups.
Evening programs bolster
the field trip experiences. While most of these programs center around marine
science topics, there is also a liberal dose of Florida Keys environmental
studies including culture and history of the Keys.
|
|
Program participants
enjoy staying in our dormitory and we can make arrangements for meals.
Participants generally must provide their own transportation to our field
trip sites.
|
|
A typical
program might last three days or longer and include snorkel trips to the coral
reef, visits to the Conch Baby Farm and other locations in Key West, a visit
to the Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key and more. Our education coordinator plans the programs on a group-by-group basis with
schoolteachers or group leaders who bring the students.
